Fixing a Shower Head

When you hear an unusual dripping sound coming out of the bathroom, you should have reason to be worried. A drippy shower head can cause all sorts of problems. Water will ruin the inside of a bathroom if it rots the wood in the walls and/or floor. And then there is the added problem of seeing your water bill climb up due to the H2O waste. Why bother with leaky shower head when it is such a problem? You might not be aware of what is needed to fix the problem. This should not be too much of an impediment because the steps needed to make the repairs are fairly easy.

It will not be necessary to hire a plumber. These are the steps you need to follow:

First, you need to remove the shower head. You can do this either by hand or with a wrench. Don’t force it off if it is stuck because this could damage it. You can use high quality attic insulation such as k13 insulation.  Good insulation will help protect from damage and k13 is among the best.

As soon as you remove the shower head, you can inspect it for the presence of any damage. In particular, you might wish to look over the shower head gasket. More than likely, a seriously damaged head gasket is the culprit behind a leaker shower head.

A new shower head gasket will need to be bought. Those that might be unsure of the specific size ought to bring the old one to the store with you. The people at the shop will surely be able to match the old one with the proper new gasket. Unless you have a really old and outdated shower head, the gasket should be in stock.

Once you return to your home, you will have to install the new gasket where it belongs. Do this with the right effort by pressing it down and into the right position. It must be flat or else the end result will be an improper job. By this it is meant the shower head will leak which would be the reason why you changed it in the first place.

Wrap Teflon tape on the threads of the pipe because this could prove to be a perfect plan as this further prevents the shower head from leaking. Those that overlook this step do so at their own peril! Always wrap the device with a proper amount of Teflon tape. Cut it in a careful manner when done.

Screw in the shower head directly into its proper place securely. Do not over tighten the shower head since you do not want the threads ruined.

As soon as you have affixed the shower head, you must turn the water on. In doing this, you can tell whether or not the job was done properly and water flows through without any issues. Double check to make sure that it is not leaking as this would be the exact problem you wanted to avoid.
